BEIRUT: Lebanese security officials say police have detained two men suspected of taking part in last month’s lynching of a murder suspect.

Egyptian national Mohammed Muslem was stabbed to death on April 29 by an angry mob in the Chouf mountain town of Ketermaya. His body was paraded through town and hanged from an electricity pole.

Muslem had been arrested a day earlier on suspicion of killing four members of a local family.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, said the two men were detained Friday in Ketermaya.
Lebanon’s state-run news agency said angry residents blocked a main road in the village in protest.

The arrests come a day after an international human rights group called on Lebanese authorities to prosecute suspects.
