Egyptian-American Rami Malek’s performance of Freddie Mercury’s biography titled Bohemian Rhapsody brought him the trophy of the Best Drama Actor at the 2019 Golden Globe awards.
The film crew also returned home with another award, as Bohemian Rhapsody also won the Best Picture.
Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the films which topped the box office. Brian May, the lead Queen guitarist, previously said that Malek’s performance deserves an Oscar.
In his speech, the young actor thanked Queen, expressing that he is “beyond moved” for winning this award, before dedicating the award to Mercury. “Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for you, gorgeous,” said Malek.
The actor also paid a tribute to the other band members, who were attending the ceremony.
“To you, Brian May, to you, Roger Taylor, for ensuring that authenticity remains in the world,” he further added.
The 37-year-old actor grabbed peoples’ attention with his role in the TV series Mr Robot. His part in the series won him the Critics’ Choice Award, and the Primetime Emmy Award.
