Egyptian cabinet announced on Thursday that the second tranche of irregular labourers’ exceptional aid will be disbursed from 26 April to 10 May through post offices and branches of the Agricultural Bank of Egypt nationwide.
Under the directives of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, an aid of EGP 500 per person will be disbursed to irregular workers – who are registered in the Manpower Ministry’s database – over three months in a bid to support this segment that was hardly hit by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The same procedures of disbursing the first tranche will be followed, where beneficiaries will receive a SMS, notifying them with the date and place of disbursement.
The disbursement outlets will be working from 09:00 to 16:00 during Ramadan.
There are different estimates regarding the numbers of informal and irregular workers in Egypt. According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the number of people who depend on intermittent work was roughly 4.3 million in the third quarter of 2019.
Earlier this month, the Manpower Minister said that there are over 10 million irregular workers in Egypt.
