President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has directed for enhanced strategic reserves of all essential commodities at affordable prices, to meet the needs of citizens.
The essential commodities will be available at all government and rations outlets across the country, according to a presidency statement.
Al-Sisi’s directives came during a meeting held late on Monday in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Meselhy.
Al-Sisi also instructed for the supply system’s expanded digitisation to rapidly and effectively provide services for citizens. This would come in addition to an expanded digitisation of storage governance at silos and strategic stores of food supplies, to reduce waste as part of government efforts.
During the meeting, Meselhy reviewed a comprehensive strategy to upgrade and develop several companies affiliated with the Holding Company for Food Industries (HCFI), especially the Qaha and Edfina companies.
The plan aims to enhance the local production and increase their competitiveness, whilst also maximising export opportunities.
