Egypt’s second edition of its International Art Fair will kick off in February, gathering artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The fair will run on 12-14 February, and will be held at Dusit Thani Lakeview Cairo. The organisers confirmed that all precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) will be strictly adopted during the event.
“This is the first event of its kind that brings together a wide variety of Arab artists, audiences, critics, patrons, and art collectors from all over the region,” the fair organisers said, “All these participants, with their active presence, will contribute to enriching the event, creating dialogue and interaction between the audience and participating artists.”
This year’s Board of Trustees consists of a group of prominent public figures, artists and academics, including Ahmed Nawar, Mohamed Abla, and Syrian actress Kinda Alloush.
Board of Trustees member Mohamed Younes said, “This session comes under exceptionally difficult circumstances imposed on cultural activity and the global economy by the pandemic.”
“It requires more effort from us, however despite the challenges, we are committed to holding this important event,” he added “In such challenging times, the fair is a rare window of opportunity for the art movement in Egypt and the region to rise again, and for recovery from this harsh ordeal that afflicted the region and the world at large.”
He noted that the fair is one of the important and ambitious international events that seeks to create a dynamic communication between those interested in art, from institutions to individuals.
“We aim to showcase the creative practice in its widest and most comprehensive form, while boosting the relationship between arts and all other fields and activities,” Younes said.
A press release issued by the organisers said that this year’s edition of the annual fair will host a wide spectrum of artistic practices in Egypt and the MENA region. It represents a real opportunity to establish a new cooperation between all capitals of the Arab region. More details about the Egypt International Art Fair are yet to be revealed.
