Egypt has strongly condemned a recent brutal attack in the Afghan capital, Kabul, which killed two female judges working in the city’s Supreme Court.
Egypt has also expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to the two victims’ families and the Afghani people.
A statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry noted that Egypt stands with the government and people of Afghanistan in the face of the recent series of brutal attacks in the country, and in confronting all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism.
Afghan officials announced that armed men shot dead two Afghan women working for the Supreme Court in Kabul, early on Sunday morning, with the Afghan capital also having witnessed several other attacks for months.
Judicial Institution spokesperson Ahmed Fahim Qawim said that two female judges were killed in the attack. Their driver was wounded.
More than 200 female judges work in Kabul’s Supreme Court.
In recent weeks, Afghanistan has witnessed a series of assassinations that have targeted media and political figures, as well as human rights defenders.
The Afghan authorities have attributed the attacks to the Taliban, despite ISIS having claimed responsibility. The killing of the two judges on Sunday comes two days after an announcement that Washington has reduced the number of its forces in Afghanistan to 2,500 troops, the lowest number since the 11 September attacks.
