Egyptian football giants Al Ahly continue their preparations to meet Sudanese side, Al-Merrikh, in the fifth round of the CAF Champions League’s group stage, which will be held on 3 April.
The team arrived in Sudan on Wednesday on board a private plane, which the Al Ahly’s management was keen to provide for the team’s players. The move aims to provide them with all means of comfort, especially in light of the precautionary measures imposed on airlines between countries at the present time due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Al Ahly’s Board of Directors, headed by Mahmoud Al-Khatib, had decided to assign Treasurer Khaled Al-Darandali to head the mission to Sudan.
The Egyptian team needs to win and collect the three points in order to continue to compete for the top place of the group, which is currently led by Simba of Tanzania on 10 points. Meanwhile, Al Ahly are in second place with 7 points, and Vita Club are in third place with 4 points, with Al-Merrikh in fourth place on one point.
Al Ahly will conduct their first training session on Thursday at the Blue Gem Stadium in Khartoum, instead of Friday, as the stadium will see Sudan’s Al Hilal play the Mamelodi Sun Downs of South Africa on the same day.
