Jordanian Palestinian artist Hani Mitwasi used his voice to great effect on his new single ‘Jerusalem Speaks.’
Jerusalem Speaks is a rousing anthem that blends angry, almost rock drums with powerful Middle Eastern melodies.
Written during the height of lockdown, Jerusalem Speaks is a “new age anthem” according to singer, songwriter, and music producer Mitwasi.
From Black Lives Matter protest tracks to song lyrics that tackle mental health, it’s increasingly important to have a voice on important matters.
He asserted that the song is a call for intellectual revolution and peace. It is about empowerment, determination, and standing up for what’s right, saying “I believe this is the only way we can free the world from injustice and corruption.”
Hani has had an impressive career to date, including collaborating with Grammy-award winning producer Quincy Jones, and his music has been streamed over 50 million times. He’s performed in front of over 100,000 listeners across dozens of countries and was a TV judge on the talent show ‘Jordan Star.’
Jerusalem Speaks will resonate with many of Mitwasi’s fans, as it tackles big, timely issues like injustice and oppression. More importantly, it’s a song that empowers the listener and chooses hope over fear.
The song backs the new generation’s stance on free thought, strength, determination that cannot be deterred by fear, and the belief that the voice of truth is louder and stronger than any power or violence.
Mitwasi was born in 1983 to Palestinian parents. He is known for crossing genres and styles. His recent music has taken a socio-political focus, tackling themes of identity, oppression, and intellectual revolution with an anthemic sound that borrows ingredients from indie rock and traditional Arabic melodies.
