Manchester Airport experienced significant disruptions and flight cancellations on Sunday morning due to a power outage. The airport’s press release confirmed that the power cut, which occurred in the early hours, primarily affected Terminals 1 and 2.

Passengers scheduled to depart from these terminals were advised not to travel to the airport until further notice. As of 11:30 GMT, over 15 flights had been cancelled, according to the airport’s departure board.

The disruption sparked complaints from numerous travellers. One passenger, posting on social media platform X under the username “itzaaron_69”, reported being stuck in the same location for over an hour and a half. Another user, “Suzanne Shrewsbury”, shared that her son had landed in Manchester but was informed it would be hours before disembarkation.

As of press time, power had been restored and the airport stated it was actively working to get passengers already at the airport onto their flights as swiftly as possible.

Manchester Airport, a major international hub serving over 25 million passengers in 2023, is currently undergoing the final phase of a £1.3 billion transformation program, expected to be completed in 2025.
