An aid convoy was launched from El Arish, Egypt, to support residents of Gaza, with backing from the Council of Arab Social Affairs Ministers. The launch occurred on Saturday.
Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Maya Morsy, Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity and Head of the Executive Bureau of Arab Social Affairs Ministers, and Major General Khaled Megawer, Governor of North Sinai, participated in the launch.
A high-level delegation from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, led by Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki and Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Social Affairs Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, also attended.
Morsy and other attendees inspected the aid convoy, as well as the Egyptian Red Crescent’s logistics centres in El Arish.
The initiative aims to acknowledge the efforts of the Egyptian Red Crescent in delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023. The logistics centres were established to support Gaza, overseeing the reception of aid trucks carrying humanitarian assistance.
The delegation planned to visit the Rafah land crossing, the quarantine facility at the crossing, and hospitals in the North Sinai Governorate.
These visits are intended to assess the workflow, adequacy of medical teams, and availability of medicines and supplies. Senior leaders from the Ministries of Health and Social Solidarity and a delegation from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States also participated.
