A police officer was wounded, while seven alleged militants were killed on Thursday morning during a gunfight with security forces on the ring road in Giza governorate, according to a statement from the ministry of interior (MoI).

The statement said that the seven dead men belonged to the Hasm movement which had received orders from the Muslim Brotherhood to conduct terrorist attacks in Egypt.

According to the statement, three militants were driving a white car as they started shooting the security forces after they noticed the forces had suspected them. The gunfight resulted in the death of the three militants, and the security forces found an automatic rifle, a 9mm gun, and an explosive unit.

Four other militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in a hiding site in an apartment.

The first appearance of the Hasm movement was in early 2016, and the MoI said the group belongs to the Brotherhood. The movement had claimed responsibility for several terrorist attacks in statements circulated online.
