Film fest honored guest at British Council's Disability Day

CAIRO: In celebration of International Disability Day, the British Council in Egypt organized a program to raise awareness about the rights of people with disabilities.

The celebration included several events. It kicked off on Nov. 30 with “A Celebration of Different Abilities at the British Council Agouza premises. Renowned American actress Aimee Mullins, guest of honor of the Cairo International Film Festival, and Festival President Ezzat Abu Ouf attended the event.

The open day included an exhibition of services for people with disabilities provided by different organizations in Egypt; open forum discussions that featured inspiring stories and engaging debates about disability and social inclusion; a photography exhibition; and related films.

The celebration culminated on Dec. 3 with “Come Listen to This, a theater performance at El Sawy Culture Wheel, in collaboration with the Right to Live Association.

The British Council’s celebration is in partnership with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the Right to Live Association and El Sawy Culture Wheel. This comes under the British Council’s social inclusion initiative for people with disabilities.
