TEHRAN: Iran has granted bail to leading reformist former member of parliament Mohsen Armin, who was arrested in May, on a surety of 200,000 dollars, a press report said on Sunday.
The Arman newspaper said Armin, who is a senior member of the banned reformist party, the Organisation of Mujahedeen of the Islamic Revolution, was released from Tehran’s Evin prison after posting the bail.
Armin was arrested at his home on May 16, a reformist website reported.
Several other members of Armin’s party were also jailed after the controversial June 2009 election which saw President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad given a second term despite fraud allegations by his challengers.
Iranian authorities rounded up scores of reformist politicians, opposition campaigners, journalists and human rights activists after the poll, accusing them of inciting anti-government protests which engulfed the capital last year.
Several of them have been released on bail, while many have been sentenced to jail terms. Ten have been sentenced to death.
