An explosive device went off outside Abu Soweir police station in Ismailia on Saturday evening, injuring one policeman and damaging a number of nearby vehicles.
Amr Al-Warwary, Al Dostour Party member and Ismailia resident, said the bomb was thrown at the police station from a vehicle that drove by at around 7.20pm, exploding near a police vehicle and fire engine.
“The explosion was not that powerful, as the cars did not explode. It just bent the metal of the police vehicle and the injured policeman faced only minor injuries,” said Al-Warwary.
Al-Warwary reported that the blast caused some damage to surrounding cars while shattering the windows of nearby buildings.
Dozens of Ismailia residents gathered in front of the police station, blaming the Muslim Brotherhood for the explosion. “People believe that the bomb might have been thrown by the Brotherhood to spread fear in the city, but not to kill or harm anyone,” said Al-Warwary.
Security forces spread throughout the area, including at the main roads, and formed checkpoints.
Police are still trying to identify the type of explosive device and the car used in the attack.
