The Muslim Brotherhood released a statement early Sunday refuting the armed forces announcement that the group organised the killing of five military police at a checkpoint in Mostorod Saturday.
“The Brotherhood criticises the accusation of the army spokesman who wakes up every morning to ascribe every crime and catastrophe to the group with neither any investigation nor proof,” the statement read, adding that this is the position of the “putchist regime” in general, not just the military spokesman.
The Brotherhood sent its condolences to the families of the conscripts who died during the “criminal aggression” of the Mostorod shooting. The statement called upon the authorities to bring the assailants to justice, and achieve “quick retribution” for victims.
Early Saturday, armed militants stepped out of a car and shot and killed five military police conscripts at the Mostorod checkpoint near Cairo-Ismailia agricultural road.
According to army Spokesman Colonel Ahmed Ali, the militants were affiliated with the “terrorist organisation” of the Muslim Brotherhood and had planted two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to hinder reinforcement to the checkpoint.
