Shoukry, Eritrean officials discuss South Sudan, regional issues

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shourky has arrived in New York City to participate in an international summit on Syria on Friday, according to a foreign-ministry statement.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received his Eritrean counterpart, Osman Saleh, and the Eritrean president’s consultant, Yamani Jabr, on Saturday, during their visit to the Eritrean nationals in Egypt, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zaid said in a statement.

Shoukry asserted Egypt’s interest in developing the bilateral relations with Eritrea in all fields amid the Egyptian strategic orientation which cares about the situation in the African Horn and the issue of the Red Sea, Abu Zaid said.

Shoukry added that the challenges the region faces require increasing the cooperation between the two countries, the statement read.

The two Eritrean officials expressed their appreciation for the high level of cooperation between Egypt and Eritrea, as well as their keenness to know the Egyptian view towards crises in the region, especially the situation in South Sudan, while Shoukry reviewed the Egyptian efforts to boost stability and peace in South Sudan, according to the statement.
