Egyptian Investment and International Cooperation Minister, Sahar Nasr, joined the British ambassador to Cairo Sir Geoffrey Adams and 15 leading British companies visiting Egypt for an official investment forum, held at the British embassy headquarters on Tuesday.
Key investors such as AstraZeneca, BP Egypt, GSK, HSBC, Vodafone Egypt, Shell, and Unilever participated in the forum, to discuss their future investment plans and identify ways to improve the business environment in Egypt.
Representatives from the Egyptian Ministry of Investment and the UK Department for International Trade also attended the forum.
The attendees also discussed Egypt’s participation in the upcoming Africa Investment Summit in London in January 2020. The summit will bring together businesses, governments, and international institutions to promote the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa, and support job creation on the continent.
“Egypt is keen on increasing its cooperation with the UK, in light of promising investment opportunities in the market. I call on British companies to increase their investments in Egypt,” minister Nasr said, noting that British investments amount to $47.8bn with 1,817 companies operating in Egypt.
The minister invited the British companies to participate in the Africa Forum 2019, which will be held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, from 22 to 23 November.
“As Egypt’s leading investor, the UK looks to create a channel of communication with leading British companies through the British Investors’ Forum. This open dialogue will ensure we continue working together to invest in Egypt’s human capital and achieve our shared prosperity goals,” the British ambassador mentioned.
