The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) received a letter from the FIFA saying football associations have no right to punish professional players who refuse to play for their national teams in the countries that reported COVID-19 cases, Sahar Abdel Haq, member of the EFA’s normalisation committee, told Daily News Egypt on Saturday.
Meanwhile, EFA is awaiting the cabinet’s next meeting to decide on the fate of the Egyptian Premier League and other local competitions, with fears escalating from the spread of the Coronavirus.
Abdel Haq said the cabinet meeting scheduled for Sunday will be crucial for the future of the local league, and will decide whether it will be continued or suspended.
She added that the EFA is committed to the instructions issued by the government, and is working to implement them, as was the case when the league matches were postponed due to bad weather.
EFA had announced that league matches would be played behind closed doors until further notice due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
