Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Sunday a phone call from his US counterpart Anthony Blinken, where the entire framework of bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries was discussed.
Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Minister Shoukry stressed the need to continue consultation and coordination between the two countries on the various issues of bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
The phone call dealt also with ways to strengthen the coordination in the light of the strategic relations between the two countries.
“The most important developments on the International and regional arenas were discussed, as well as the repercussions of the ongoing international crises and their impact on the economic and living conditions in the countries of the world, and the need for joint action to reduce their consequences,” the spokesperson added.
It was also agreed between the two ministers to continue coordination and consultation during the next phase on all issues of interest to Egypt and the United States.
Earlier on Saturday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received Isiaka Abdelkader Emam, Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation. He congratulated the secretary-general on his recent assumption of his post.
Minister Shoukry also congratulated the organization on the celebration of the 25th anniversary of its founding, expressing Egypt’s support for the work of the organization and its goals.
Hafez said that the meeting dealt with ways to strengthen the frameworks of cooperation between Egypt and the organization in the coming period, where Minister Shoukry expressed his aspiration to further cooperation with the organization in all areas of its competence, especially the promotion of trade and investment.
In another context, Shoukry met on Saturday with a delegation of the Canada Egypt Business Council.
He welcomed the delegation’s upcoming visit to Canada to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Shoukry commended the growth of trade and economic relations between Egypt and Canada expressing his aspiration to enhance cooperation between the two sides in all fields.
Minister Shoukry emphasized Egypt’s keenness during its presidency and hosting of COP27 to enhance partnership between the public and private sectors in order to achieve sustainable development and the transition towards a green economy, while exploring modes of cooperation with the Canadian partners.
