6 dead, 114 require medical treatment on second day of Eid Al-Fitr: Health Ministry

A total of 6 deaths and 114 injuries occurred in 33 different incidents across Egypt during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, according to the Health Ministry’s crisis management room.

The deaths and injuries were attributed to several different causes, including food poisoning, road accidents and street fighting. Road accidents along the Cairo-Alexandria, Suez, Red Sea, Sharqeya and 10th of Ramadan roads saw three killed and 93 injured. One person was killed in the Fayoum governorate during a fight at a wedding party. 

On Saturday, the Health Ministry announced seven cases of food poisoning in Minya and Aswan governorates. In Cairo, meanwhile, two others died, also from food poisoning out of three cases reported. Meanwhile, another case of food poisoning is currently undergoing treatment in Hurghada governorate.

The Health Ministry statement added that three were injured in a gas station fire in Maghagha, in Minya, whilst nine succumbed to heat exhaustion in Port Said governorate.
