The Palestinian Authority (PA) has denounced Israel’s killing of a young Palestinian man and its destruction of infrastructure during a raid in the West Bank city of Tulkarm on Tuesday. The PA also blamed the US for enabling Israel’s “aggressive policies” and urged it to intervene to stop the violence.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the spokesperson for PA President Mahmoud Abbas, said in a statement that Israel’s incursions into Palestinian cities, villages, and refugee camps, and its storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Jewish extremists, were leading to a “dead end and dangerous path” that threatened peace and security for everyone. He said that the US, which has been mediating between Israel and the Palestinians, was responsible for Israel’s return to these policies and should not be satisfied with issuing statements that did not affect the ground.

“The US must intervene immediately to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression,” he said.

Abu Rudeineh identified the victim of the Israeli raid as Ayed Samih Abu Harb, 21, who was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarm. He said that the Israeli forces also caused heavy damage to the camp’s infrastructure. He added that the Palestinian people and leadership would not give up their national principles and rights and that they would continue to defend their land and holy places.
