Al-Sisi, Abbas reject any attempts to liquidate Palestinian issue

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, confirmed their categorical rejection of any efforts or attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue or displace Palestinians from their lands, in any form.

This came during a meeting between the two presidents on Monday in Cairo.

Ahmed Fahmy, the spokesperson of the Egyptian presidency, said that the two presidents had an expanded discussion session, with the delegations of the two countries, on the current situation in the Palestinian territories. Abbas reviewed the developments of the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe, as well as the situation in the West Bank and the escalation of tension and violence by the Israeli side.

Al-Sisi presented the intensive efforts and ongoing contacts that Egypt is making with various parties to push for a ceasefire and the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip to end the suffering of civilians there.

The talks confirmed the central role of the Palestinian National Authority, and the need to take all measures to support the authority to fulfill its role.

The two presidents stressed that the Palestinian issue is at a critical juncture today, which requires the international community and the active forces to exercise the highest degree of responsibility, historical, political, and humanitarian, to work on a just and comprehensive settlement, which includes the establishment and recognition of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They reiterated their categorical rejection of any efforts or attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue or displace Palestinians from their lands in any way.

The Palestinian president also expressed his great appreciation for the role of Egypt, which supports the Palestinian cause, historically and up to the present moment, when Egypt is exerting great and tireless efforts, at all levels, to support the Palestinian people and their endeavors to obtain their legitimate rights.

In a related context, Al-Sisi received on Monday Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the Arab League.

Al-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s keenness to continue its support for the Arab League, believing in its pivotal role in joint Arab action and maintaining the unity of the Arab ranks in the face of the unprecedented and intertwined challenges facing the region.

The meeting discussed the most important issues and challenges on the ground, foremost of which are the latest developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip.

It touched upon the intensive efforts aimed at a ceasefire, the provision of humanitarian assistance, and the activation of the two-state solution path, leading to the Palestinian people obtaining their legitimate rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in accordance with the approved international references.
