Egyptian Foreign Minister, Benin counterpart discusses bilateral ties

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdelatty, spoke with Olushegun Bakari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Benin, by telephone on March 8, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

During the call, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s commitment to enhancing joint cooperation frameworks with Benin, particularly in trade, investment, security, and energy. He affirmed Egypt’s support for Benin’s development efforts by expanding economic cooperation and exchanging technical expertise.

Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s readiness to share expertise in key sectors such as construction, infrastructure, electricity and renewable energy, digitisation, pharmaceutical manufacturing, mining, and agricultural manufacturing. He also noted the growing interest among Egyptian companies in exploring investment opportunities in Benin.

The Foreign Minister emphasised the importance of boosting cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, facilitating access for Egyptian pharmaceutical products to the Beninese market due to their quality and competitiveness. He also stressed his intention to strengthen institutional cooperation between the two countries’ foreign ministries, including launching training programmes for Beninese diplomats to benefit from Egyptian expertise.

Bakari expressed his desire to visit Egypt soon to strengthen bilateral relations. He affirmed Benin’s eagerness to benefit from Egyptian expertise in various fields and praised Egypt’s role in supporting development and stability in Africa.

The two ministers also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, stressing the need for continuous coordination in international forums to promote stability in Africa. They agreed to hold regular meetings to advance joint cooperation, serving the interests of both nations.
