The armed forces announced Thursday that 22 militants were killed in Sheikh Zuweid. The statement was accompanied by a nine-second video of the attack on one of the militants’ hideouts.

The death of the militants came on the same day that “State of Sinai” claimed an attack on a naval vessel, which “was guarding the shores” of the city of Rafah. The military stated that the exchange of fire between militants and the naval forces resulted in setting the vessel ablaze. However, there were no losses reported among military personnel.

In separate incident, a bomb exploded in Roxy Square in the Heliopolis district of Cairo Thursday, injuring one policeman.

The attack in Roxy was claimed by another militant group known as “Ajnad Misr”.

“State of Sinai” mostly operate in the restive Sinai Peninsula, notably in east Al-Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid, with minor reach in other areas across the nation, while “Ajnad Misr” operates mainly in Greater Cairo.

The intensity of both groups’ attacks saw an increase following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013
