The Ministry of Interior declared that fans will not be allowed to enter Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria for the face-off between arch-rivals Al-Ahly SC and Al-Zamalek SC on Tuesday.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) issued the final confirmation ahead of Tuesday’s match for round 17 of the Egyptian Football League.
Alexandrian police and security officials held a meeting, assembling army representatives, police and security directors in order to prepare and plan the security protocol for the venue during the 111th Cairo Derby between Egypt’s largest rival clubs.
General Nader El-Gendy, Alexandria’s security director, stated after the meeting that no one would be allowed to enter the stadium, including fans, except those authorised by the EFA and both clubs’ officials, and members of the press approved by the EFA.
Police will be on high alert, and all roads leading to the stadium will operate several checkpoints. Furthermore, both teams’ buses and hotels will be provided with security escorts.
