An official in the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) said that the sector continues to pump additional quantities of diesel in the provinces of the republic up to about 1.3m tonnes daily, after the period following the celebration of Eid Al-Adha.

He told Daily News Egypt that there is periodic follow-up for areas with high consumption rates of diesel and gasoline to avoid any stacks, especially, during the summer vacation season, adding that the rates of pumping fuel at the level of the republic vary from one province to another based on consumption studies of the provinces.

Moreover, the official pointed out that the rates of consumption of diesel throughout the year range from 1.1 to 1.2m tonnes per day, which are sufficient quantities for consumption, pointing out that supporting the refining industry domestically strengthens the ability of the sector to pump additional quantities of petroleum products and reduces shipments of external imports of diesel and gasoline.

He noted that the coming period will witness the production of increasing quantities of crude oil through the fields and wells recently discovered and directed to value-added industries, which increase the return of those products, including the refining industry in light of the government’s tendency to strengthen Egypt’s oil exports with the near transformation to a regional energy centre.
