Closing of Shell Egypt Automotive Ramadan Football Tournament

Renault wins championship

A few days ago, the third annual Ramadan Football Tournament ‘Shell Egypt Automotive’ was concluded with Renault ranking first, and a prize worth EGP 40,000, followed by the BMW team in second place, with EGP 30,000, then the Bavarian Auto Group (BAG) with EGP 20,000 in third place, and Abu-Hetta’s team in the fourth place with a prize worth EGP 10,000.

This year’s events were held at The Field Community Club in Maadi, in a family atmosphere in Ramadan. A family ceremony was held in honour of the launch which was attended by many representatives of the Egyptian automotive sector with their families. The guests were offered Ramadan drinks and sweets. Several segments of dancing were presented and most of the audience expressed their happiness during the ceremony atmosphere.

A match was held for junior players between BAG and junior automotive companies, who were honoured by the organisers at the end of the match.

This year’s event features 20 teams, which include Shell; BAG; BMW; Renault; GB Auto; Brilliance; Volkswagen; Subaru; Club World; Abu-Hetta; Al-Ahram; Al Ahli Medical Services; Auto Group; Adam Co; Tamimi & Co.; Influence Communications, and Nissan, which participated with 3 teams.

The preliminary round

Abu-Hetta’s team won the first round with 10 points and a difference of 26 goals, followed by Al-Ahram with 10 points, but a difference of only 11 goals. Subaru then finished third with six points, and a difference of eight goals.  Nissan 1 team won three points with a difference of 19 goals, and finally Tamimi, who were unlucky not to score any points, won with a difference of eight goals.

In the second group, BAG came in first place with nine points and a difference of nine goals, followed by Shell with nine points, but by a difference of six goals, Volkswagen by nine points, and a difference of three goals, Adam’s team won by three points, and by a difference of eight points, and finally Auto Group was not lucky enough to score any points, with a difference of six goals.

Renault managed to win first place with 10 points and a difference of 19 goals, followed by Al Ahly Medical Services with eight points and a difference of seven goals, then Nissan 2 with seven points and a difference of one goal, then Influence team with three points and a difference of 19 goals, and finally Brilliance which was not lucky enough to score any points and only eight goals.

BMW dominated the group with 12 points and a difference of 28 goals, followed by Club World with nine points and a difference of seven goals, then GB Auto with six points and a difference of 26 goals, then Al Borsa with three points and a difference of 30 goals, and finally Nissan 3 which was not lucky to score any points with a difference of 31 goals.

Quarterfinals

The competition in the quarterfinals included the first four matches between Abu-Hetta and Al-Ahli Medical Services, which ended with the winning of Abu-Hetta, the second between Al-Ahram and Renault, and ended with the winning of Renault, then the third between BAG and Club World and ended with the winning of BAG, and the fourth was between Shell and BMW and ended with the winning of BMW.

Semi-finals

The semi-finals included a competition between BAG and BMW, and the latter won by 13-5. The semi-finals also included a competition between Abu-Hetta and Renault and the latter won with penalties.

Then a match was held between Abu-Hetta and BAG, which BAG also won with penalties with a total of three kicks against two, reaching third place, leaving Abu-Hetta in fourth place.

And finally, the final match to determine who the champion of the league is, included BMW and Renault, and both teams performed well in a great match that ended in 2-2 which led them to penalties where the teams also saw a draw with until BMW wasted a good shot making Renault champion of the league.

The celebrations of the league were attended by the winning teams at a ceremony that included representatives of the automotive sector, notably Rami Gad, General Manager of Renault, Yahya Abdul Qudous, Head of Marketing at BMW, and Mohammed Ghazali, the chairperson of the electric car affiliated to BMW, with their families and friends.
