5th Egypt IoT & AI Challenge kicks off in Alexandria

The fifth edition of the Egypt Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence Challenge (Egypt IoT & AI Challenge), organised by the Borg El-Arab Innovation Complex in Alexandria, was launched on 6 February.

The challenge is taking place in partnership with the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology represented by the Information Technology Industry Development Authority (ITIDA), and the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA).

Mohamed Shadid, CEO of the Technology Innovation Park at Borg El-Arab, said that this year’s event will take place with a significant development in activities, and an expansion at the regional and international levels.

These developments confirm the success of the experience of the Borg El-Arab innovation complex project, which was established with ITIDA’s support and sponsorship. Over the past four years, the complex has succeeded in achieving many of the goals on which it was founded.

ITIDA Executive Vice-President Hossam Othman said that IoT and AI technologies are part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He indicated that the challenge contains integrated innovation engines, from school and university students to the stage of emerging companies.

Rami Ahmed, Head of the Executive Department for Planning the Fourth Industrial Revolution at NTRA, said the authority is continuing its work to support the state’s efforts towards digital transformation.

It is also devoting much effort into creating a healthy environment that attracts investment, and supports the development and dissemination of pioneering digital services of all kinds.

The Egypt Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence Challenge is a nationwide capacity-building programme targeting university and STEM students, as well as start-ups. The challenge aims to work with those who have innovative ideas and projects using IoT technology and AI applications, in addition to related fields.
