The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman on Tuesday after the Israeli occupation police intercepted the Jordanian ambassador in Tel Aviv when he entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry, Sinan Al-Majali, said that the Israeli ambassador was informed of a strong letter of protest to be immediately conveyed to his government.

The letter condemned the Jordanian government for all measures aimed at unacceptable interference in the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque .

It reminded that the Jerusalem endowments and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and shrines is the legal authority with exclusive competence to manage all the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and regulate access to it.

The spokesperson also stressed the need for Israel, as the occupying power, to comply with its obligations in accordance with international law, especially international humanitarian law, regarding the occupied city of Jerusalem and its holy sites, especially the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to refrain from any measures that would violate the sanctity of the holy places .

He stressed the need to put an end to attempts to change the historical and legal status quo in it, or to prejudice the powers of the Department of Jerusalem endowments and the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque of the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and holy sites.
