The Ministry of Tourism is working to stimulate the production of local crafts through online marketing. In addition, the ministry is arranging visits for tourism representatives, media personnel and foreign tourism agents to local crafts centres to facilitate the marketing of local crafts abroad.
The plan includes setting up a website for local crafts, which will include the location of the markets and profiles of some renowned local artisans.
Studies conducted by the ministry also recommend that the state create “crafts villages” in order to prevent the extinction of these art forms. The ministry hopes that this will provide a marketing opportunity and offer tourists a wide range of products.
“The ministry is very focused on developing ‘non-traditional touristic sectors,’ in an attempt to restore normal levels of tourism and create new markets for Egyptian tourism,” Mahfouz Aly, manager of the minister’s office, added.
