6 terrorism suspects announced killed by police in Assiut

The Ministry of Interior announced Monday the killing of six suspects, allegedly involved in terror-related operations, in an unpopulated area in the city of Dairut.

A statement by the ministry said that the intelligence from the National Security Apparatus confirmed the presence of the suspects in the mentioned place, who had the aim of the committing more militant attacks.

It added that a police force attacked the mentioned place and exchanged fire with the suspects, leading to the killing of six of them. The ministry is yet to reveal their identities.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Interior announced a similar attack with police forces, in which they killed 14 militants in the city of Ismailia. The deceased individuals were said to have been preparing a military camp to train militants use weapons and explosives in order to execute operations in North Sinai.

Dairut is known to have been a stronghold of conservative Islamists in the 1990s, who were involved in bloody clashes with police forces during the reign of former President Hosni Mubarak.

These operations come by the police, after a deadly attack on Friday targeted a military outpost in Southern Rafah, killing and injuring 26 personnel.
