The Cairo Criminal Court postponed the trial of Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, sons of former president Hosni Mubarak, and seven other businessmen to 20 December, after the parliamentary elections.

Everyone in the case was charged for manipulating the stock exchange. Their trail was postponed because one of the court members is participating in the parliamentary elections supervision.

On 9 May, the court ruled to sentence Mubarak and his sons with three years of imprisonment on charges of seizing public funds by embezzling money specified for the presidential palace. They were also fined EGP 125m, the amount of money seized by the defendants by forging the presidential budget in official statements.

The seven businessmen involved in the case are Ayman Ahmed Fathi Hussein Suleiman, Ahmed Fathi Hussein Suleiman, Yasser Soliman Hisham Mallawani, Ahmed Naeem Ahmed Badr, Hassan Mohammed Hassanein Heikal, and Amr Mohammed Ali Al-Kadi, and Sobhy Hussein Lotfy El-Sherbini.
