Researcher at Zewail City receives OIC award for science

Menna Al-Serafi, a researcher at the genome studies centre at the Sherif Al-Khamisi Laboratory of Zewail City for Science and Technology, received the award for science and technology from the ministerial committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Al-Serafi is set to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, a conference for physical sciences Nobel laureates, which is organised every five years in Lindau, Germany.

She said that the award will help her in publishing her research and will also allow her to affirm women’s role in changing the field of science.  

Six hundred PhD researchers and postdoctoral researchers will attend the conference this year. The conference will also host 43 medicine and physiology Nobelists, according to a statement from Zewail City.

Sherif Sedqi, chief executive officer at Zewail City for Science and Technology, said that the dream of professor Ahmed Zewail is coming true now, adding, “we can see real achievements of the city and its students.”
