14 defendants sentenced to life imprisonment on terrorism charges

The Giza Criminal Court sentenced on Thursday 14 defendants to life imprisonment, on charges of joining an illegal group with the purpose of endangering societal peace, according to state media. 

Among the sentenced defendants is the economic advisor of the former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, Abdallah Shehata.  

Six other defendants received 15 years imprisonment with hard labour, while another defendant received 10 years imprisonment with hard labour. 

The accusations include plotting to sabotage the constitution and the law, as well as launching attacks that led to the killing of police officers and civilians in sabotage attacks.
