Zewail City needs EGP 4bn to complete its infrastructure: CEO

The CEO of Zewail City of Science and Technology, Sherif Sedky, said the university had developed a five-year development plan that would require funding worth EGP 5.5bn.

Sedky told Daily News Egypt that the needs of the development of the infrastructure of the university amounts to EGP 4bn, noting that requires support from the state, which it receives, along with contributions from other local and international donors.

He explained that annual operating expenses amount to EGP 250-300m for the coming five years, which they aim to obtain through self-funding, grants, and agreements.

Zewail City is an independent innovation and education non-profit institution.

The strategy of the university is based on creating a new generation of leaders and scientists who can make an impact on the community and offer new contributions in advanced scientific areas. It includes five main institutions; the university, research institutions, technology pyramids, the academy, and the strategic studies centre. They have been able to register about 380 research papers and obtain 12 patents in the fields of health and environment.
