Al-Sisi congratulates Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed on election as UAE President

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi congratulated Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on being elected Saturday as the UAE’s president following his brother’s death.

Al-Sisi travelled to the UAE early Saturday to offer condolences on the death of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, who died on Friday at the age of 73. The Egyptian president returned home later Saturday.

On Friday, Egypt declared a three-day mourning period and the UAE also announced a 40-day mourning period nationwide.

Sheikh Khalifa served as the second president of the UAE and the 16th ruler of Abu Dhabi since 2004.

On Saturday, the UAE’s Federal Supreme Council elected Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan as the next president of the United Arab Emirates.

Mohamed Bin Zayed has served as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi since 2004.
