CAIRO: A tear gas bomb that was thrown inside the Demerdash Hospital by the ex-husband of a nurse resulted in the death of a two-year-old girl.
The girl was on a ventilator, according to a source at the hospital, and it is unclear whether she died as a result of the tear gas or because someone took her off the ventilator amidst the chaos.
A source inside the hospital told Daily News Egypt that Ayman Sabri, the angry ex-husband of one of the nurses who set off the tear gas bomb out of anger, was arrested and is being questioned.
Several cases of suffocation, among staff and patients, are being treated at the nearby poison control center.
According to MENA, Sabri is part of Ain Shams University’s administrative staff.
Several of his acquaintances reportedly said he had been brandishing the tear gas bomb earlier in the day and had been threatening to carry out the attack for days.
The nurse works at the hospital’s heart center.
