On Monday Minister of Higher Education and Deputry Prime Minister Hossam Eissa issued a statement confirming that it is possible for heads of all institutions that fall under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education to call upon security forces and allow them to enter campuses.

This decision, according to the statement, is a means to maintain  peace and stability in all educational institutions in order to ensure the proper functioning of the educational process.

In addition, the Primary Disciplinary Council of Cairo University issued several “disciplinary” edicts as punishment for attacking former Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa. The punishments included suspending four students for a year and preventing several other students from taking exams or postgraduate programmes in all public universities.

This comes as a confirmation to what Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi said in a press conference last week, where he gave the right to university presidents to call upon security forces to enter campuses in case of “threats to individuals, entities and students.”
