A bomb explosion on Friday in the city of Mahalla injured one person who is believed to have planted the bomb.

The homemade explosive device went off close to Mahalla’s first district police station. The security forces who afterwards inspected the area found dismembered fingers that are believed to belong to the assailant, state-run news agency MENA reported.

The use of homemade bombs and small IEDs have become a common occurrence, as small explosions occur weekly in Cairo and across Egypt.

Often, the explosions target police stations and sites with a heavy security presence, but they also target roads, electricity units, and telecommunications stores.
