The Sinai-based militant group, “State of Sinai”, has reportedly claimed responsibility for a bomb attack which took place Saturday morning in front of the Italian Consulate in Cairo.

Both local and foreign media reported that the militant group claimed responsibility via alleged social media accounts affiliated with the group.

The explosion left one dead and nine others injured, according to the Ministry of Health. The sole death was identified as a man named Rabea Abdul Al, a 26-year-old vendor from Fayoum, local media reported.

The explosion is believed to have been caused by a car bomb. The injured were transported to the nearby Al-Hilal and Railway hospitals, according to the Ministry of Health’s initial report on the case. Six of them were released, while the other three remain under care.
