Egypt Men’s National handball team enjoys success at African Handball Cup of Nations

Cairo is currently hosting the 22nd African Handball National Cup, which started on 21 January 2016 and will end on 30 January.

The Egyptian men’s national team proved has enjoyed success in the first days of the competition. On 21 January, the Egyptian team defeated Algerian, 22-18. The next day, Egypt defeated Nigeria, 34-20. On 23 January, Egypt defeated Cameroon, 30-20. In the last match on 25 January, Egypt played and won against Gabon, 31-16. Egypt is scheduled to play Morocco on 26 January.

The African Handball Cup of Nations is a qualifying tournament for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, as well as a qualifying tournament for the 2017 World Men’s Handball Championship, which will be held in France from 11 to 29 January 2017.

Egypt’s win against Algeria is a significant victory since the Algerian National team is considered a formidable opponent. The Algerian men’s national handball team participated in the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics, the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics.

As for Algeria’s performance in the African championships, it has won the African championship five consecutive times in 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, and 1989 and won the gold medal in the All Africa Games in 1973, 1978, 1987, and 1999.
