6th of October Rotary club trains undergrads for teaching literacy workshops

The Rotary club inaugurated two adult literacy classes at the 6th of October University, one dedicated to the workers and the other to drivers   

With the aim of putting an end to one of Egypt’s major social struggles, illiteracy, the Rotary Club of 6th of October Landmark held a workshop for the students of 6th of October University in order to train them into giving literacy classes for adults.

The workshop comes as a part of the Concentrated Language Encounter (CLE), a model of training that aims to effectively teach both adults and children in a new, and interactive way. The programme was proven to be successfully implemented in decreasing the rate of illiteracy across the uneducated of all age groups.

Egypt comes pioneer for countries applying the model among Arabic speaking countries.

The workshop follows a protocol that the Rotary signed with the university and a number of local NGOs in 6th of October and Sheikh Zayed cities.

Mai Mandour, Seargent at Arms at the Rotary Club of 6th of October, said the Rotary club inaugurated two adult literacy classes at the 6th of October University, one dedicated to workers and the other for drivers.   

She further explained that all participants successfully passed the workshop, which officially qualifies them in providing adult students with literacy classes.

The classes include providing teachers with bonuses and encouragement. As for the students, the passing ones are provided with official literacy certificate, which according to Mandour, lasts for six months.

The programme comes as part of the Rotary club’s total support programme for underprivileged in 6th Of October city, which includes reduced prices for clothing, and other social activities.
