China will send Egypt additional medical aid to help the latter combat its ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, said the Chinese ambassador to Egypt, Liao Liqiang. Speaking during a virtual press conference on Sunday, Liao said the first delivery will be on 21 April, with another package still under consideration.

Egypt has already received medical aid from China on 16 April which included 20,000 N905 masks, 10,000 protective suits, 10,000 COVID-19 detection kits, the ambassador said. The new delivery will consist of 10,000 masks and 10,000 protective suits.

The third aid package will contain 1m masks, 70,000 COVID-19 detectors, 70,000 protective suits, 70,000 medical gloves, and 1,000 thermometers, the ambassador also said.

Egypt was one of the first countries to help China in its battle against its coronavirus outbreak, the ambassador said, adding that Chinese-Egyptian relations will further prosper after the pandemic.

The Egyptian government’s measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus are effective, scientific, and transparent, the ambassador said. He added that both countries are in direct contact to exchange experiences on fighting the virus.

The embassy organised a video conference between Egyptian and Chinese experts to share knowledge on the coronavirus fight, with Chinese experts praising Egypt’s response towards the pandemic, the ambassador noted.

Egyptians are courageously facing the ongoing outbreak and they will soon overcome the crisis, the ambassador said. He added that factories in China are resuming production gradually while the Chinese government is still implementing precautionary measures.

The ambassador denied that discrimination against Africans was happening in China, noting that the government is maintains its requests that its nationals and foreigners in China stick to the protective measures, such as wearing masks.

“The number of social media reports featuring fabricated videos showing that China is abusing Africans are not true at all,” the ambassador said. He added that China is providing African countries with medical aid to help them face the ongoing pandemic, and that both sides share good relations.
