Culture Ministry to livestream 6 concerts on YouTube on 14-16 January

Egypt’s Ministry of Culture is to livestream six concerts and rare shows via its YouTube channel, this weekend, featuring a wide range of artists.

On 14 January, the ministry will livestream an evening focusing on Nigeria, as part of its “Know Your Family” programme to introduce African cultures, with the event to start at 20:00.

Another concert will be presented by the Egyptian Marimba player Nessma Abdel Aziz at 21:00, where she will play a variety of oriental and international musical works. This will be followed by a concert performed by the renowned band, Massar Egbari.

On 15 January, a rare Opera Cultural Salon evening will take place, focusing on the late iconic Egyptian actor Mahmoud Yassin. During the event, a documentary film of the actor will be presented, showing him speaking about his artistic career and his most important roles.

The ministry will present the play, Zaki, written by Lenin Al-Ramli at 22:00. Starring Hussein Fahmy, Omar Al-Hariri, and Hala Fakher, the play revolves around a university professor who takes over an important ministerial position and tries to correct the mistakes he encounters.

A documentary film will also be livestreamed on 16 January, about the renowned Egyptian actress Laila Taher.

Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem said that there is an increasing demand for cultural content presented on the ministry’s YouTube channel.

She also said that the online cultural service has become one of the effective means to spread enlightenment, especially during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
