Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the graduation of participants in the artificial intelligence (AI) training programme.

The programme was launched by the Ministry and implemented by France’s College of Computer and Advanced Technologies (EPITA).

It took place online over a period of two months, with the training provided by specialists from EPITA.

The 156 new graduates received training on curricula and training content for the AI Diploma that the college developed to suit the Egyptian market. The trainees were selected by a joint committee from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and EPITA, to represent various academic and industrial bodies from among more than 1,600 applicants.

Talaat said that the training programme comes as part of his ministry’s keenness to build the capacities of young minds, as it represents an investment for the future. It also acts as a basic pillar for building a digital Egypt.

For her part, Golestan Radwan, Adviser to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Artificial Intelligence, said that the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence aims to employ AI technology. This will be used to develop all sectors and enhance Egypt’s regional leadership in this field.

Heba Saleh, President of the Information Technology Institute (ITI), said that the completion of the training programme coincides with the opening of applications for the professional training grant in the field of artificial intelligence (AI-Pro).

The grant is the first of its kind in Egypt and lasts for nine months, during which the ITI will train more than 1,000 youth annually in this specialisation. The training will use the base of trainers and the training curriculum that EPITA has prepared.

It is worth noting that 5,600 young people have applied for this scholarship so far. In light of the increasing demand for applicants, Talaat has directed to pump more investments to accommodate all applicants who are eligible for this distinguished programme.
