760,700 employed in Egypt’s public, public business sector in 2020: CAPMAS

Egypt had a total of 760,700 employees in the public and public business sector in 2020, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The figures for 2020 reflect a decrease of 3.9% on the figure for 2019, when 791,200 were employed in the sector.

The data was issued in the agency’s Annual Bulletin of workers in public/ public business sector Statistics 2020. Other main indicators are show that

The report noted that there was a total of 659,700 male workers in the sector in 2020, compared to 686,400 in 2019, reflecting a decrease of 3.9 %.

Female workers reached 100,900 in 2020 compared to 104,800 in 2019, a decrease by 3.7%.

The Housing and Construction sector recorded the highest number of workers with 213,600 workers, representing 28.1% of total number of workers in the public/public business sector.

This was followed by the industry, petroleum and mineral resources sector, which accounted for 23%, and the electricity sector which accounted for 16.2%.

Cairo accounted for the highest number of workers (41%) in the public sector, recording 312,000 workers. The capital was followed by Alexandria which accounted for 71,000, Qaliubiya which accounted for about 36,000, then Gharbeya which accounted for about 34,000 and finally Giza governorate with about 31,000 workers.

Executive jobs recorded the highest rate of 30.9% of the total number of employees, while senior management jobs recorded the lowest rate of 1.7% of the total number of employees.
