Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Elsayed Elkosayer met, on Thursday, with South Sudan’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Josephine Lago, and Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Onioto Adigo, during the former’s visit to the Sudanese capital, Juba.

The meeting aimed to complete the cooperation talks that began between the two countries last November in Cairo.

A number of issues of interest to South Sudan in the agricultural field were discussed, starting with capacity building, training, fish farming, animal production, vaccines, and agricultural research.

Elkosayer and his accompanying delegation listened to a presentation on the agricultural sector in South Sudan, its contribution to national production, available investment opportunities, challenges facing this sector, and the technical support and training it needs.

He affirmed the directives of the political leadership in the two countries to strengthen cooperation frameworks in all fields, especially the agricultural sector.

During the meeting, Elkosayer announced that the Ministries of Agriculture and Higher Education in Egypt cooperate to provide scholarships to students from South Sudan to raise their capabilities in the agricultural field.

Moreover, the two countries declared the formation of a joint agricultural committee to follow up on what has been agreed upon.

It was also agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for establishing an integrated farm in South Sudan.
