South Korea Ambassador to Egypt, Hong Jinwook, was not the only foreign ambassador invited to the historic reopening of the 2.7km-long ancient Avenue of Sphinxes in Luxor, but surely was one of the most impressed by the event.

Despite the pandemic, he travelled across the country, visiting Alexandria, Port Said, Ismailia, El-Gouna, and Aswan. He got to know the cultural heritage of those areas and most importantly the hospitality of their people.

“I decided to appoint myself as the honourary Egyptian cultural Ambassador to Korea, having seen the event the night before. I will encourage more and more Korean people to come to Egypt and to taste all those merits of the land, culture and the people. That will surely lead into much stronger relations between Korea and Egypt by enhancing people’s understanding,” Ambassador Hong said.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Egyptian people for their ever growing interests in so called Korean Wave; music, films and dramas just to name a few. Korean drama “Squid Game” recently became a great hit all around the world including Egypt.
