Museum of Tal Basta Antiquities hosts temporary exhibition on Ancient Egyptian writing

Museum of Tal Basta Antiquities has hosted a temporary exhibition on Ancient Egyptian writing, under the title “The Writer and His Tools in Ancient Egypt.

The exhibition will run until 30 December.

Ibrahim Ali, Director General of the Museum, explained that the exhibition includes two statues of Djehuti, the idol of wisdom and knowledge in Ancient Egypt. One in the form of a baboon, and the other in human form with the head of an ibis, in addition to a marble writing board with hieroglyphic writings.

Museum of Tal Basta Antiquities is a site museum that embraces the archaeological treasures in Sharqeya governorate.

The establishment of the museum began in 2006, but it paused in 2010, and resumed again in 2017. The museum opened in 2018.

The museum displays an impressive collection of statues of ancient Egyptian deities, the most important of which is the statue of the deity Bastet, who was the main deity of the region. Other objects on display include tools of daily life and adornment, terracotta statues made of local clay that were famous in the Greek and Roman eras, a collection of coins, ornaments, and decorative tools that reflect the aspects of daily life in Egypt through different ages.
