Forget the standard routine and explore new activities with your date

CAIRO: The summer is finally here but it won t last for long, so forget the classic date routine of dinner-and-a-movie and get inspired. Whatever relationship stage you are at – whether you have just started dating or you are an established couple – there are many creative, adventurous, and romantic date ideas that are just right for you.

The best part about dating, besides the obvious aim of finding your true love, is that you get the chance to plan out interesting outings. Here are just a few fun ideas that will get you going. So what are you waiting for? Ready, set, date.

Adventurous dating It couldn’t get any better for Grease’s John Travolta and Olivia Newton John on the beach. If you are looking for that kind of summer lovin’, then try a romantic picnic at sunset. If you are looking for some action go snorkeling together, build sandcastles, enjoy the variety of water sports, or even play a game of beach volleyball. Don’t worry about the sweat as the ocean is where you go to cool off from all the beach activity. Go for a swim with your partner.

As for the adventurous at heart, pack some food and water bottles, and lace up your sneakers; it’s time to go hiking. One favorite spot is Mount Sinai; take in the breathtaking scenery at the top of the mountain as the sun rises and cuddle up with your date. The ascent to the top starts at around 1 or 2 am, so plan ahead for this truly unique date experience. Other places to hike are valleys like Wadi Degla and Wadi Hitan, which are just as fun, but make sure you bring the water bottles.

For desert lovers, a picnic next to the sand dunes couldn’t be anymore divine. Caution: since it is extremely hot in the summer season, avoid the heat by making sure to go just before sunset, which will also allow you to get an amazing chance to stargaze. Make sure you bring a blanket and lie down under the spectacular view of the stars on a cool desert night. Stargazing can provide for a dreamy night out with your special someone.

Play the gamePut on your bowling shoes and grab your date. This activity can be surprisingly fun and this competitive light sport can really spark things up between you and your date.

Other fun and challenging activities, which you can find at some local coffee shops, are board games such as chess, checkers, and backgammon. If you are like most Egyptians, you probably haven’t visited any of the tourist attractions your own city has to offer except maybe when you were in grade school. Exploring your hometown is a wonderful experience to share with your date.

Try out social events, such as poetry recitals, musical recitals, the opera, the Cairo Jazz Club and After Eight; other social gatherings like museum openings; and cultural centers like El Sawy Culture Wheel in Zamalek.

On the other hand, if you want no distractions at all, take a lovely felucca ride along the Nile. Whether in the afternoon or evening, the Nile’s magnificent scenery will provide a great backdrop to your budding relationship.
